Chronological Star Trek Guide

There's a lot of Star Trek out there and one of the things that really grabbed me about it when I finally became a Trekkie was how all of the series exist in one continuity. If you're new to Star Trek... well, chronological is probably the worst way to go. Just start with The Next Generation like everyone else does (I don't mean that mockingly, it's a good entry point). I am an Enterprise apologist, but you should not start there.

For the most part, the chronology doesn't matter - really, if you're here as someone looking to get into Star Trek, please just start with The Next Generation.

This guide is mostly intended for dorks who actually want to do a chronological watch or to help place where exactly things are occurring for those who are into Trek, but not into Trek enough to do a chronological watch.

Credit where credit is due; this site is being relied upon for a considerable amount of the content here. That being said, I'm handling this guide a bit differently just to make it more useful as a quick reference.

Series will be referred to as;

Regarding the Kelvin timeline;

Spoilers for Picard Season 1 and Discovery Season 3: Picard takes place after the destruction of Romulus and the fallout is an integral plot point, so I will place Star Trek 09 in the timeline where it intersects with the prime universe. Discovery S03 implies that the prime timeline is aware of the Kevlin timeline beyond what Spock may have needed to reveal as well. Into Darkness and Beyond's placement isn't particularly relevant as the destruction of Vulcan presumably would have changed events enough that the only series remaining canon to the Kelvin timeline would be Enterprise.

Regarding The Animated Series;

I am including it in the timeline. There are several small references to it throughout various series that succeeded it and there's the big one of Kirk's middle name as well.

Spoilers for Lower Decks Season 2: I'm sure that Lower Decks' canonicity will be hotly debated because it is a comedy, but Spock Two's skeleton is included. Good enough for me.
